GOOD GOVERNANCE

Youth Advocate for Peace Justice and Empowerment Network (YAPJEN) submits that good governance means performance and results, and the government has a duty to deliver by CHARLES OKPALAEZE

Youth Advocate for Peace Justice and Empowerment Network holds the view that "If the object of developing and developed world leaders is to uplift their peoples continually, then it is essential to measure approximations of actual service deliveries (what we ought to mean by “governance”), not to rate nations impressionistically according to the perceived quality of their operations, their perceived impartiality (as per Rothstein), the extent of their bureaucratic autonomy (as per Fukuyama and others), or their capacity to coax or coerce citizens". Only in that positive manner can we distinguish the governments that are producing abundant political goods (i.e., good governance) from those that no longer are, or never did.

YAPJEN insists on the unalloyed delivery of good governance by the Nigerian government to the citizens as it is the lifeline of a viable and productive State, creating the requisite environment for economic prosperity, respect for human rights, socio-political stability, etc.

In walking the talk, YAPJEN has kicked against repressive government policies, called out the government in an event of dereliction of its duty, engaged government sectors for effective productivity, demanded accountability, etc. The social justice advocacy group never ceases to beam its searchlight on the government whenever its transparency is in question, and blows the whistle when necessary.

YAPJEN maintains that alongside the ideas of the rule of law and democracy, good governance acts as a third conceptual cornerstone of the modern state.

YAPJEN's commitment to good governance has engendered economic and social reforms. The social justice advocacy group roots for the restructuring of Nigeria as a means of ensuring equitable distribution of the dividends of good governance in Nigeria. To ensure the delivery of good governance, YAPJEN advocates for a fair and independent judiciary, competent legislature and a law abiding executive arm of government.
